Status Models aims to help young women in Moldova gain self-confidence and experience in the world’s fashion markets – without ever needing to descend to the seedy end of the market that has stigmatized Moldova in the past. With the help of commercial sponsors and EU institutions, we are helping them achieve independence by promoting them as proper fashion models in the Italian and other markets – we have invested in their future by sending models to Italy to compete in the prestigious New Model Today (Gran Gala della Moda) competition. Some of the winners have worked in France, Italy and China. But they still remain under-represented and underpaid in an industry that accounts for 5% of EU GDP. Now we are intending, with the help of commercial sponsors, EU foundations and delegations in Moldova, to present the Moldovan fashion industry – designers, dress-makers and models – to buyers and stylists in the major European capitals.
