One of the best and most refreshing interviews we have read in a while, Joan Smalls talks to The Edit about her determination, obstacles she has overcome, goals, and future ambitions. Although we are already huge fans of Smalls here at The Business Model, after reading her interview we developed a whole new level of admiration and respect for the Puerto Rican supermodel. With her strength, discipline, and determination, if there’s anyone who can overcome adversity and come out on top it’s Smalls.
«There is no competition. I just want to be the best Joan Smalls . . . [My career] was never given to me. What is [down to] luck is genetics — I was born like this, my parents gave me these genes. But I worked my ass off and pushed myself, and even in the darkest moments, when I thought it wasn’t going to happen, I had to remain positive. People only see the glitz and glamour, but behind it comes a lot of sacrifice. So many tears, so much frustrations.»
