The Model as Client

The Model as Client

Most of the time the model is at the bottom of the photography food chain. But when you are shooting pictures for your own use the roles change. Now, for at least part of the shoot, you are “the client”. You need to ensure that the number and type of photographs taken will meet your needs. If what you want is different from the normal style of the photographer, make sure you and he agree that he will shoot and deliver what you need.
You need to ask:
1. Prints? How many and what size?
2. What do they cost?
3. A CD of images, or printed on paper? If a CD, at what resolution?
4. All of the pictures shot or a small subset? Who chooses them?
5. Will they be retouched?
6. When should you expect them?
7. Will you be expected to sign a release? If so, what type?
8. Will the photographer give you a copyright waiver so you can use the pictures? If so, what type? If not, what are his policies on your use of the pictures?
9. Will support people like makeup artists and hair stylists be at the shoot, and are they are competent? Ask to see their work!
